Ingredients

Toad in the Hole

  • 2 oz plain flour
  • 2 oz whole milk
  • 2 oz water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 6 pork chipolata sausages

Onion Gravy

  • 10 g butter
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 2 tsp gravy granules

Mashed Potatoes

  • 400 g potatoes peeled and chopped
  • 45 g butter
  • 25 g whole milk

Instructions

Toad in the Hole

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • For the Toad in the Hole, combine the flour, milk, water and egg in a large jug. Season well with salt and pepper, then whisk to combine. Refrigerate the batter whilst you prepare everything else.
  • Add the oil to a 7 inch round tin, ensuring the bottom and sides are all fully greased. Then add the sausages and cook in the oven for 10 minutes.
  • Place the tin over a high heat on the hob until the oil starts to smoke, then pour over the batter. Allow it to cook for around 30 seconds on the hob before returning to the oven to cook for 25 minutes.

Onion Gravy

  • Add the butter and onions to a small sauce pan over a low heat. Cook gently until softened.
  • Add the gravy granules, then whisk in water to get the desired consistency.

Mashed Potatoes

  • Boil or steam the potatoes until soft, around 15 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes, return the pan to the heat. Add the milk and butter until softened. Remove from the heat, add the cooked potatoes and mash. Season generously.

Serve

  • Combine all on a plate and serve with peas.
